Mrs. Antonia C. is 51 years old and lives at Tudela, Misamis Occidental. She is blessed with seven children: two are married and five are still studying. Her husband is a farmer who lends a hand in farming, specifically in corn production which is their primary activity.
Antonia has been a member of Paglaum MPC since April 2009. Now she is applying for a loan of Php 5,000 to buy farm fertilizers and pesticides. She plans to buy a carabao (a domesticated subspecies of the water buffalo) to toil the land and to build a simple concrete house and be able to send their children to school and that they finish with a degree.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
