Esther O. is 46 years old. She is married and has five children: two sons and three daughters. She tells us that all of her children are still in school - senior high, junior high and the primary schools.
Esther lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in a farming/commercial town called Achiase, near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Her husband is a cocoa farmer. Esther is a trader. She trades in second hand textiles: clothes for both men and women and also bed linens. She purchases bales of textiles from Accra and sells in her community by hawking. Esther says she also treks to other towns to sell on their market days. She has been in business for eight years and desires to expand her business. She is hopeful to improve her standard of living and to give her children the best of education.
