Nana E. is 40 years old. She is widowed with four children who are currently in school. She has been a local manufacturer of palm oil for eleven years now. Palm oil is produced from palm nuts, and the fruits from the palm nuts are also processed through various stages to obtain the oil which is used to prepare many local dishes. Nana produces and supplies it to food vendors to prepare their meals. She normally treks them in gallons to the big cities in Ghana like Accra and Kumasi. In addition to that, she also sells items like onions, peppers, and spices on top of a table in the market.
Nana wants to use the loan to buy more bags of palm nuts and an electric milling machine to increase her efficiency to produce oil in larger quantities. She believes this will help expand her business, enabling her to raise more income to support her children’s education. Nana belongs to the village bank called ‘Yohane’ which literary means John.
