Elizabeth works as a snack vendor to her neighbors and the neighboring barrios, selling native snacks such as "suman" and bananas. Because of increased demand for her products, she investigated many lending institution for financial assistance. Since joining Paglaum MPC, which extends financial services to the poor, she has been a good member, having already received and repaid two loans. Now, she is seeking a loan of 12,000 PHP to be able to purchase ingredients for her native snack-making. Elizabeth would like to establish a mini-restaurant and snack house in the future.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose CooperativePaglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
