Eva T. is in the hog fattening business. Eva is thirty-eight years old, married, and blessed with four children. Her husband is a farmer. Eva and her family live in Lumbayao, Aloran, Misamis Occidental. Eva started her business with just one piglet and a small amount of money. It has been a lot of hard work, and she doesn’t underestimate the kind of work it will take to maintain it. In order to continue her business, Eva realized that she needs additional capital. Joining the Kiva field partner, Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative, is a great opportunity for her to get the financial assistance she needs. Today, she would like to borrow $250 to purchase sacks of feed, and she would like to start raising a few chicks for added income. From the income that she will gain, Eva will be able to pay her loan, and like any other parent, provide her children a good and bright future.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
