Manuela I. is 58 years old and lives in the town of Tecpan, Guatemala, in the department of Chimaltenango. She is a widow and for the past two years has helped support her two unmarried daughters.


Manuela’s business is raising pigs, which she has done for nearly 30 years. In addition to this business, she also buys and sells hand-made “guipiles” (traditional Guatemalan blouses).


Manuela is requesting a loan in order grow her business. She says that in the coming season she needs more pigs and will use her loan to breed and care for them. Her dream is that her daughters have their own homes, and that she can continue to take advantage of her good health and keep working hard and moving forward.
