Arlene T., 48 years of age, is married to Rico Tempura who is a laborer. They are blessed with five children and four of them are still studying. Arlene decided to be part of a Paglaum coop so that she could get a loan of additional capital for her sari-sari or grocery store and for the capitalization of her new business of "chicharon" making. Chicharon is a popular food appetizer made with pork skins.
Because the income of her husband is not enough to support them, Arlene is very thankful to PMPC for the assistance. It helps to provide for the daily financial needs of her family.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
