Kate P. is thirty-five years old. She is married and has four children, two sons and two daughters, in primary and junior high school. Kate lives with her children and husband in a rented apartment in a farming/commercial town called Achiase, near Akim Oda in the eastern region of Ghana. She works to support her husband and family financially, and especially to meet the children’s school needs. Kate’s husband is a farmer who cultivates food and cash crops.
Kate is a trader. She runs a provision store on one of the principal streets in her community. She procures her goods from wholesalers in Oda and other nearby towns. She has been in business for twelve years and wants a loan to procure goods in bulk. Her intention is to expand her business and give her children the best possible education.
