This village bank is called “PITUSURAY”. It has 15 members, both men and women, all are residents of Calca province, located 1 hour and 30 minutes outside of Cusco by public car.

The village bank members perform different tasks, with the main activities being agriculture, livestock farming, and retail. The majority of members also work in tourism, some have jewelry stores, textiles, handicrafts, restaurants, lodges, and home stays. Members are asking for a loan in order to expand their busineses and many of them to also improve themselves.

Our members are very appreciative and value the support given by this method, they all agree to comply with loan payments on the dates scheduled.

Este banco comunal se denomina “PITUSURAY”, cuenta con 15 miembros, entre varones y mujeres, todos residentes en la provincia de Calca, ubicado a 1:30 minutos en carro público de la ciudad del Cusco.

Los socios del banco comunal realizan diferentes labores, teniendo como principal actividad, la agricultura, la ganadería y el comercio minorista, en su mayoría los socios trabajan en turismo, alguno de ellos tiene tiendas de joyas, textiles, artesanías, restaurantes, hospedajes, casas familiares, los socios solicitan el préstamo para ampliar sus negocios y mucho de ellos, mejorar los mismos.

Nuestros socios están muy agradecidos y valoran el apoyo otorgado mediante este medio y se comprometen a cumplir con el pago de sus préstamos en las fechas programadas.

About Asociación Arariwa
Asociación Arariwa is a large non-governmental organization that started offering microcredit in 1994 to improve the quality of life, skills and equity of the population in the rural Cusco region of Peru. Arariwa serves the southern Andean provinces of Peru, and is distinguished by its efforts to reach the very poor, who often live in isolated rural areas. Arariwa fosters village banking, supports savings accounts, promotes access to education, and empowers women entrepreneurs (who make up 78% of its borrowers).

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
