There are five people requesting this small loan, all residents of the province of Siem Reap. The members have selected Mrs. S., 45, to be the group leader. She is a good mother whose five children who are students pursuing individual studies and who still live in the family home. She works as a massage staff member in the hotel and gets a set salary of $80 a month to support her family's daily expenses. She is married to Mr. Chan, 38, who supports the family by fishing in and near Tunle Sap Lake. S. will use the loan to purchase a bicycle for her children so that they can ride it to their studies.


The other four borrowers are all local fisherwomen:


Mao C. is looking for a loan to repair her old house.
Nuor Y is asking for a loan to buy fishing tools. (Nuor Y was not available for photographing so her husband is pictured instead.)
Dung D. is applying for a loan to purchase a boat machine for her fishing business.
Lonh K. is hoping for a loan to refurbish and decorate her house.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
