Kwabena O. is forty years old. He is married and has five kids. He lives with his family in their own house at Oda, a farming community in eastern Ghana, where most of the inhabitants are farmers. Kwabena has been a photographer for the past nine years. Photography has been his major occupation and the main source of income for his family. He owns a photography shop where his clients pose for their photographs. He also works at parties and concerts, where he takes photographs and videos of his clients. He would use the loan to buy tools and materials--a camera, flash bulbs, film, a video camera, etc--to expand the services he offers. Expanded services would generate more income and improve his family's standard of living. He is a member of the “Mawuli” Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee each other's loans and provide support and assistance in handling their repayment.
