Guiselle
Guiselle C. V. is a 43 year old woman, who lives with her husband and her two sons: Alexandra and Edgar. She lives in a community in Costa Rica called Abanico, located in San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, San Ramón in the Province of Alajuela. This is known as a tranquil community dedicated to productive activities such as agricultural, livestock-rearing and tourism. Giselle has a small piece of land in which she has sown different crops such as papaya and plantain, but on this occasion she wants to start a new project on a hectare of land which her son has lent her in order to grow ñampí, a tuber with an agreeable flavour and rich in nutrients, suitable for wide angoindustrial processing and in great demand in Costa Rica and other countries.

Currently, Giselle is asking for a loan of 670 000 colones for a period of 12 months, in order to help her with the preparation of the soil, purchasing seeds, fertilizers among other products which will be necessary in order to guarantee an optimal ñampí crop. With this investment she hopes to achieve a good harvest, with a product which has the necessary characteristics to obtain a high sale price. With this loan she wants to establish a successful project which will allow her to improve her family's conditions and in addition to invest in improving her house. Guiselle is a member of the Abanico Community Credit Company : one of the 100 EDESA social organizations in Costa rica. As a member she has received one micro-credit which has permitted her to expand as a businesswoman and gain in self-confidence.

Guiselle C. V. es una señora de 43 años de edad, quien vive con su esposo y sus dos hijos: Alexandra y Edgar. Vive en una comunidad rural de Costa Rica llamada Abanico, ubicada en San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, San Ramón, Provincia de Alajuela; la que es conocida como una comunidad muy tranquila y dedicada a actividades productivas tales como la agricultura, ganadería y turismo.

Doña Guiselle tiene un pequeño terreno en el cual ha sembrado diferentes cultivos tales como papaya y plátano, pero en esta ocasión desea iniciar un nuevo proyecto en una hectárea de terreno que le prestó su hijo para sembrar ñampí, un tubérculo de agradable sabor, rico en nutrientes, de procesamiento agroindustrial amplio y de gran demanda tanto en Costa Rica como en otros países.

Actualmente doña Guiselle está solicitando un préstamo de ¢670,000 (seiscientos setenta mil colones) por un plazo de 12 meses, para ayudarse con la preparación del suelo, compra de semillas, fertilizantes, entre otros insumos que sean necesarios para garantizar la siembra óptima del ñampí.

Con esta inversión espera lograr una buena cosecha, con un producto de características apropiadas para conseguir un precio de venta alto. Con esto desea iniciar un proyecto exitoso que le permita mejorar las condiciones de su familia y de paso, invertir en mejoras de su vivienda.

Doña Guiselle forma parte de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal de Abanico; una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Como socia ha recibido un 1 microcrédito que le ha permitido crecer como empresaria y sentirse mejor con ella misma.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
