Ali I. is a 53-year-old entrepreneur who breeds calves for sale and has 15 years of experience in this field. Ali is married and has six sons! He dedicated his life to bring them up and now he is retired and calf breeding is the only financial source for his family. Receiving very low pension, Ali does his best to provide his youngest son (who is living with him) and his wife with better living conditions. Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
