Konul A. is 35-year-old woman who sells perfumes in the village of Imishli. She is a widow and lives with her parents. Konul has worked in her shop since 2005. She rents her space and purchases all her goods from the city of Baku, 3 hours away from her home town. Konul is applying for a $2000 loan to diversify the goods she sells. Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
