Agnes is a member of Khumboko Group in Butere District. She is pictured with 20 One Acre Fund farmers (15 women and five men). Agnes is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for half an acre of maize and sorghum cultivation. Agnes first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Agnes joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer, to avail herself of the best available input prices, and to be assured of reliable input delivery. Her goal was to grow enough food for the family. Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Agnes was only able to harvest five bags of maize per half acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest seven bags per half acre. She plans to spend the money that she earns from her next harvest on sending her children to school, saving for the future, and perhaps investing in another business. Agnes’s group members will each receive input loans of half an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 10 acres of maize and sorghum.
