The communal bank "Unión Y Desarrollo" meets every 15 days in the "las Orquídeas" residential community of the city of Portoviejo, a place known for the warmth of its people and its initiative to move forward. In this place there lives Suzana. She is 30 years old and maintains a civil union relationship from which she has a 4-year-old son. The husband is a merchant. She sells clothing of all types, shoes, and sandals. Her manner of selling is door-to-door and she also sells in the house where she lives but only to her better-known customers. She works everyday and all day now that she sells in her home as well. She leaves her customers on credit and collects every 8 or 15 days. She is going to buy her merchandise from Guayaquil and soon from Colombia. She has been doing this activity for more than 6 years and it is going very well for her. This loan is to buy women's clothing, shoes, purses, and other accessories. She has been with the communal bank for 3 years and she likes it because the interest rates are lower than in other credit institutions. Her dream is to own her own home since where she lives is rented.
