The 14 group members of Dorcas (B) Lom also belong to the Kuki tribe and live in a small community in Manipur, located in the remote northeast region of India. Pi Paokholhing, with raised hand, is 54 years old and has two daughters. She is known in the village as an expert traditional weaver, using ancient techniques to keep her tribal customs alive. Many other women in the group seek her advice on weaving and complex designs. With the support of other members, she wants to add another source for her family's income by buying piglets to raise and eventually sell for profit. Pi Paokholhing wants to access a KIVA loan of Rs. 10,000 to buy 2 piglets for rearing that will cost her Rs.6000 INR and the remaining Rs. 4000 INR will be spent on buying thread for weaving traditional shawls. She will buy one piglet and one sow for breeding purposes. The pig will be sold after 9 months @ Rs. 20,000 INR and will contribute towards the next year’s educational expenses for her daughters while the repayment of the KIVA loan will be met by selling the traditional shawls.
