Kiva Lender: Mark Agwonah Memorial

Occupation: www.kivafriends.org
I loan because: This is a lending group in memory of Kiva borrower Mark Agwonah, who contributed greatly to his community and was tragically lost to the Kiva family on July 15th, 2007 under mysterious circumstances.

Mark Agwonah was 30 years old and an only son. He left behind his mother and two dependents, a boy and a girl, who are members of his extended family. The parents of one of the dependent died due to HIV/AIDS and the other dependent was abandoned during the 1992 land clashes in the Transmara region of Kenya.

Mark was the founding member of a program called Youth Empowerment Centre. The Centre educates young men and women to help them start small businesses and also supports them with small loans.
About me: We are a group of people from www.kivafriends.org, who were shocked and outraged by what happened to Mark and want to ensure his legacy by making loans to Kenya. Mark has been an inspiring example for many and we do not want his legacy to fade.

The brutal death of a member of our community is a blow to all of us. If you want to join us, go tohttp://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,682.0.html and post there.

We also set up a fund to support Mark's mother, who is now solely responsible for the two children. If you want to know more, please go to:
