The women of the group Jolidenw are mostly married and average 28 years of age and three children. They live in polygamous families in the village of Marka-Coungo (Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali). They know one another by commercial ties in essentially firewood, charcoal, and condiments.

This group of women, in order to expand their business, decided to join the institution Soro Yiriwaso, with which they are on their eighth solidarity loan (group loan). All of their preceding loans have been correctly repaid.

This new loan will be used to build up a large stock of firewood gotten locally from peasants in Marka-Coungo and from surrounding villages. The wood is taken to Bamako (capital of Mali) by truck (10-tonnes) rented for the occasion and is sold for cash to wholesalers. On the way back, they buy condiments that will then be resold retail at the Marka-Coungo marketplace, cash or credit accepted, to customers composed of women. They each envision realizing a monthly profit of 50,000 francs CFA. Their ambition is to organize a marketplace for firewood in Marka-Coungo, at which wholesalers will be able to come and supply themselves at any time.
