The Kusi Killa Community Bank is beginning its third loan cycle with twenty members.

The members have businesses that sell a variety of items, such as fruit, food, notions, general merchandise, dairy products, bread, small animals, root vegetables, and woven sweaters.

For example, Yovana is a 41-year-old widow with five children. Her business is making yogurt, which she sells by taking orders from customers. Yovana also embroiders tablecloths, among other things.

On the other hand, Rosa is a single 42-year-old with three children. She buys and sells peanuts at the “Las Américas” market.

While Elizabeth, a 21-year-old mother of one son who lives with her partner, sells cosmetics from catalogs. She sells them to friends and relatives on credit.

The group's members need differing loan amounts, 300, 450, or 600 Peruvian nuevos soles, for a grand total of 10,350 nuevos soles to be loaned to the community bank.

The loans will be invested in the purchase of fabric, thread, cooking utensils, cosmetics, rice, sugar, milk, fruit, bread, and small animals.

The members of the group hope that their children will complete their studies. They also dream of having their own financial resources, expanding their businesses, and building homes.

Update from Peru on your loan!

Entrepreneur: Kusi Killa Group
Location: Ayacucho, Peru

The Kusi Killa Community Bank is beginning its third loan cycle with twenty members. The members have businesses that sell a variety of items, such as fruit, food, notions, general merchandise, dairy products, bread, small animals, root vegetables, and woven sweaters.

This is Kusi Killa’s second loan cycle on Kiva, and I was able to catch up with a couple of their bank members to see how their loan cycle is going.

For Maricruz, she used her loan to fix her moto-taxi. It has helped business, but her loan repayments have been difficult recently because of personal reasons. She is not going to pull out of the communal bank for this reason. She does think that having the loan helped her economically, and she continues to dream of having several moto-taxis to rent out to taxidrivers in the city of Ayacucho. She is thankful that FINCA has guided her, taught her, and helped her to grow personally.

For Mary, she used her portion of the loan to pay for her studies. Her repayments have been fine and she has had no trouble making them. She studies during the day and works at night, and she is excited to finish her studies soon. She hopes to build a savings and her favorite things about working with FINCA are the friendships she has built with the other members of her communal bank.

FINCA Peru's Mission is to contribute to the empowerment of social and economically disadvantaged women in Peru. By facilitating the integral development of human capacities, FINCA Peru promotes the development of the entrepreneurial spirit within each of its clients. Its mission is to strengthen the social discipline of women through the daily practice of positive values such as equity, solidarity, respect, responsibility and honesty.
