Erdenetsetseg Tsedendorj is a single mother who lives with her 11 year-old son in Uvurhanghay province, one of the southern provinces of Mongolia.

In 2004, the government laid off a significant number of high school teachers due to a structural change in the higher education of Mongolia. Erdenetsetseg was one of them. After the layoff, she started a small retail business in school related products such as pens, pencils and notebooks. She purchases the products from the wholesale markets in Ulaanbaatar..

Since she was a high school teacher, she knows what school children need during the school season. Maybe because she used to work in education, she hopes to make sure that her only child receives the best possible education. Her dream is to send her son to one of the best universities in the world. She requests a loan to purchase more products for her retail shop.

Dear Lenders, Entrepreneur: Erdenetsetseg Tsedendorj Location: Uvurhanghay, Mongolia Erdenetsetseg is on vacation in the countryside (July is the most popular month to take holiday, due to the short summer season), but we were able to meet her mother, a saleswoman in the shop (as shown in photo). Erdenetsetseg purchased school supplies with her loan from Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. The summer is a bit slow, but she expects big business in August and September in preparation for the school year. In addition to school supplies, the store sells books and posters. The store is the only source of income for Erdenetsetseg, and she uses the profits to provide for her household needs. The XacBank loan officer told us that she is a repeat bank client and very responsible.
