37-year old Luz lives with her 37-year old husband Rodolfo and their daughters Kimberly (10) and Niurka (4) in their own home. She works in an infirmary, but for the last ten years she has also sold clothing. She buys the items wholesale, then sends them to her mother who lives out in the countryside where she can sell them for a good profit. The result is a money-making business for them both. Luz likes the work as it enables her to spend more time with her daughters whom she loves dearly. She wants to provide them with a good future so they can have successful careers, but that requires much work. For this reason she is considering expanding her business and opening a store where she can offer a greater variety of clothes, gift items etc. In her home Luz has a space that could work as a store, but it needs some finishing touches and more stock bought.

Luz has worked for Kiva partner Microfinanzas Prisma for several years and is the treasurer of the community bank. But now she herself needs a loan which she expects to pay back punctually as she always does. With the loan she will buy more clothing to send to her mother in the countryside and thus earn more money for the household.
