Hy Chanthorn is 46-year-old and a mother of 5 children who lives with her husband in Phnom Penh, Camboida. She generates her income by selling palm sugar in the village and usually makes about $10/day of income. Her husband is self-employed as a tuk-tuk driver and makes around $10/day. Two of Chanthorn's sons are tuk-tuk drivers as well, while another one is a construction worker. Their daily revenue is contributed to the household. Furthermore, the loan allows Chantorn to purchase a trailer for her business and buy some wood to repair the house from leaking in the rainy season. In the future, Chantorn wants a stand to sell her sugar at the market, where she will make her additional income. Eventually, if she saves enough money, she thinks about being able to build a new house and send her children to a university.

journal update

Entrepreneur: Hy Chantorn
Location: Phnom Penh City, Cambodia

Hy Chantorn lives in the Prey Chhor district of Kampong Cham province. She first heard about CREDIT through a loan officer passing through her district. She decided to take out a loan with CREDIT because of their good service and low interest rates. She had used other MFI’s before but found CREDIT more suited to her financial needs. She bought her husband a new trailer to hook on to the back of his tuk tuk vehicle that would be able to transport more passengers than before. He now earns about 4 US$ per day. She has had some issues repaying her loan regularly but all in all is doing very well and is considering other ways to expand her family’s business opportunities.
