Josée Ngiengi entered the world of micro-business in 1980 with $35 in capital. Her first business involved buying and selling different soaps. She bought them from a soap manufacturing company named Marsavco” to resell them at the marketplace. From 1980 to 1991, her business prospered, attaining $700 in capital.

Monetary reform and the pillaging in 1991 in the Democratic Republic of Congo had seriously affected her business and caused a drop. She started up again with 65 boxes of different soaps up until 1997, when wholesalers in Kinshasa stores also started selling goods at the retail level. She therefore decided to stop selling soap. From 1998 to 2003, with $100 in capital, Josée started retail sales of boxed tea. She diversified her business in 2003 by adding babouches (slippers), with the goal of growing her profits.

Wanting to bolster her business in an ongoing manner, she decided to join one of the HOPE RDC groups in December 2008. Her business is in the middle of stabilizing because she’s realizing weekly profit of about $70.

Josée is 48 years old, married, and the mother of seven children, who range from 9 to 29 years old. Five of them attend school.

Josée Ngiengi est entrée dans le monde des micros affaires depuis 1980 avec un capital initial de $35. Sa première activité était d’acheter et revendre les différents savons. Elle les achetait dans une société de fabrication des savons dénommée « Marsavco » pour les revendre au marché. De 1980 à 1991, son affaire prospéra jusqu’à atteindre un capital de $700. La reforme monétaire et les pillages de 1991 en RDCongo avaient sérieusement affecté son affaire et causé une baisse. Elle relança l’affaire avec 65 cartons de différents savons jusqu’en 1997 quand les grossistes dans des magasins de Kinshasa commençaient à vendre aussi les articles en détail. Josée décida ainsi de cesser la vente des savons. De 1998 à 2003, avec un capital de $100, Josée commença à revendre du thé en cartons. Elle diversifia son activité en 2003 en ajoutant les babouches (flippers) en vue de croitre le bénéfice. Dans le souci de renforcer son affaire de façon permanente, Josée décida d’intégrer un des groupes de Hope RDC en décembre 2008. Son affaire est entrain de se stabiliser parce qu’elle réalise par semaine un bénéfice d’environ $70. Josée est âgée de 48 ans, mariée et mère de 7 enfants dont l’âge varie entre 9 et 29 ans. Cinq d’entre eux vont à l’école.
