Born in 1962 in Bamako, Mrs. Goundo Diarra is married and the mother of two children. She lives with her husband and children in the Hamdallaye district of the town of Koutiala (Sikasso region).

She is a teacher in a public school in the town of Koutiala, but has also earned income selling fabrics, "wax pagnes" (high quality, colorful African print cloth), and other items for 15 years. She enjoys an excellent reputation and receives orders through women's associations for ceremonies and above all before such holidays as March 8 (International Women's Day).

In order to satisfy the needs of her ever growing clientele, she decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso 5 years ago. After 4 solidarity loans (group loans), all correctly reimbursed, she is now on her 6th individual loan, the preceding having been repaid without difficulty.

With this loan, she plans to buy 60 lengths of "wax pagne" in Bamako (capital of Mali). Mrs. Goundo does her selling in the various companies in Koutiala and to order to a clientele made up of women and men, for cash or on credit.

She expects to make a monthly profit of 160,000 F CFA which she plans to use to reimburse the interest on the loan, cover family expenses, and expand her business. Inspired by great ambition, Mrs. Goundo hopes one day to open a shop selling fabric and other items in the big open-air market of Koutiala.

Entrepreneur: Goundo Diarra
