The members of the group Anbèkoun are composed of a widow and four married women who average 43 years of age and 6 children each. They live in monogamous families in the Rails Ko district of Markala (fourth administrative region of Mali). They know one another through ties of marriage and community, and they do commerce essentially in foodstuff and catering.

After having correctly repaid the first solidarity loan, this group is on it’s second loan, which will be used to buy 3 sacks of sugar, 3 sacks of ginger, 1 sack of hibiscus leaves, 1 box of flavorings, 1 basket of lemons, 1 basket of tamarind… the juices made from ginger and dableni (hibiscus flowers) are obtained from a careful mixing of these aforementioned items… 2 boxes of potatoes, and 250 kg of millet. Supplies of all of these goods are gotten at the weekly fair in Diamarabougou. The potatoes are sold in different ways but generally fried or stewed. Sales are made out of the house, door-to-door, in eateries, and at the marketplace, cash or credit accepted from customers composed of men, women, and children.

The women hope to realize an average monthly profit of 21,000 francs CFA that will be use to make the loan interest payments and to help cover family expenses. Their ambition is to stock up on grains and to market them.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK

Entrepreneur: Anbèkoun ("we Can All Get Along") Group
Location: Segou, Mali
