Edelberto, his wife Rosa Paucara and their four dependent children live in Pasankeri on the west side of La Paz. Edelberto is a baker by profession and has been employed for 15 years in a bakery in Cotahuma, near their home. Out of his salary, he has saved enough start-up capital to buy ingredients for his own business like flour, sugar and shortening or lard. This loan will pay for a brick oven in his home so he can work independently. This is his first loan, but his background shows he can improve his income and repay the loan.

With the loan Edelberto bought the brick oven he needed and now he became a small business owner. He is still wotking at the bakery and his spare time ( after 3pm) he has been working real hard to create a niche for his business.

The result: he is selling bread ( various types of it) to people in is neighborhhod and to some retail stores in the area. This is a good start, he says, and he hopes to grow slowly until the time comes to dedicate all his time to it and quit working at the bakery. For now, he is happy with the results.

2nd update

Entrepreneur: Edelberto Quispe
Location: La Paz, Bolivia

As of december 17th, Edelberto has made seven payments of $50 each, totalling $350. There are five more payments to go and the loan will be paid off.

His new business is doing well. He has managed to get clients that became regulars and this new income is helping him a lot. After he finishes paying the loan, Edelberto indicates that he will probably apply for another loan to complete the structuring of his business. We certainly hope so.
