Umm-e-Kalsoom baji is 45 years old, married, and a citizen of Lahore, Pakistan for the past 20 years. She is an uneducated lady, as she couldn’t get an education because of her parents meagre financial resources. Umm-e-Kalsoom baji is married to M. Younas, who has an artificial jewelry making business. He has had this business for the past 10 years. Umm-e-Kalsoom baji is the mother of five kids: three sons and two daughters. All of her kids are enrolled in a school and are getting an education. Umm-e-Kalsoom baji has a dream to see her children in a good position. To fulfill her dream she helps her husband in his jewelry making business, so that her husband sells more jewelry in the famous bazaars of Lahore and earns a good income. She successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying again for a loan to buy material (beads) for her husband’s jewelry making business.

Umm-e-Kalsoom baji is the group leader of another four women from her locality. Sakina baji and Rehana baji and Samina baji each want a loan to buy sewing machines to sew clothes. Shafqat baji wants a loan to buy clothes for her clothes selling business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
