Zahida Aslam Masih Group

Zahida Aslam Masih is the group loan leader of another five women from her community. She is 37 years old and married. She owns a two room brick house in the city of Lahore, Pakistan, where she has lived with her family for the past twenty years.

She has two sons and two daughters, all of whom attend school close to home. Her husband, Aslam Masih, has been an auto-rickshaw driver for the past five years. Zahida runs a beauty salon from her home, where she sees a good number of customers. She uses her income to pay school fees for her kids and puts the remainder into her salon. She has successfully repaid two loans from Asasah (a microfinance lender in Pakistan), and is applying for a new loan to purchase items such as cosmetics, creams, and a hair dryer for her beauty salon.

The other members of the group will use the loan as follows:
Ailas Saleem Yousaf and Asma Rehmat Masih will use their portions of the loan to buy cosmetics and creams for their beauty salons. Violet Younas Masih will buy medicines for her clinic. Mahtab Zahid would like to purchase a video camera for her movie making business. Farida Kashif Iqbal will use the loan to pay the remaining installments of her vehicle named “Shahzore.”

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
