Veronica Badu

Veronica Badu is 38 years old. She is married and has given birth to three daughters and three sons. The first five children are all in the basic school while the last-born has yet to start school. She lives with the children and her husband in a rented apartment in a small farming community called Nkwateng in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The major occupation of the residents, the men in particular, is farming whereas some of the women are into trading activities. Her husband is a cocoa and palm-nut farmer.

Vero is a fishmonger. She procures fresh fish and smokes it herself. She also fries some fish for sale. She sells on a table in the market square but distributes the greater part to retailers and food vendors in and around her community.

Vero procures fresh fish from cold stores in the nearby cities. She has been in business for four years. Vero says she wants a loan to procure fresh fish in bulk. It is her dream to help her husband put up a structure for the family and to give their children a good education.
