Shahnaz Kosar Group

Shahnaz kosar baji is a 41 years old married lady and has been a resident of the Ismail Nagar neighborhood of Lahore city, Pakistan for the past 20 years. Her husband, M. Rasheed, is a driver by profession and drives a rented auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). He has been driving this for the past 12 years. Shahnaz baji is the mother of seven kids: four sons and three daughters. Her two eldest sons are involve in a decorative embroider business. The other two sons and her daughters are being educated at a school located near the house. Shahnaz baji is a very active lady. She does all the household work and than helps her sons by making embroidery on clothes. She successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now, she is applying again for a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw for her husband so that he can increase his earnings.

She is a loan group leader of some other women of her locality. Rukhsana baji wants a loan to buy scrap for her scrap business. Ruqaiya baji wants a loan to buy material (chairs, creams) for her salon. Shamim naz baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
