Nalina Massingue

Sra. Massingue's small store is located in the remote but densely populated neighborhood of Bairro 1 on a heavily trafficked foot path. Nalinda opens the storefront at 7am in the morning until 8pm, but because the store is attached to her home she attends to customers at whatever hour they call upon her. She also holds a job as a cook in the government offices up the hill, so when she is out of the house her daughters man the storefront.

With funds from her loan, Nalinda was able to buy a greater quantity of staple goods in bulk such as sacks of rice, flour, oil, sugar and peanuts to lessen the trips to the capital city for purchases. She also bought a greater variety in merchandise so she can now offer several choices in drinks, crackers, cookies, etc. In addition, she uses a bit of the loan each week to buy fresh eggs and produce such as tomatoes, onions. and potatoes.

Profits from this business are used to support the household and two of her 11 children that live at home. She also pays for the costs to school these two youngest daughters.

Nalinda hopes to take a new loan in order to build an enclosed seating area to serve as a restaurant on the opposite end of her house. She'd like to buy tables and chairs as well as a small stove from which to make her specialty chicken dish.
