Then Saem

My name is Katie Davis and I am a Kiva Fellow (KF7) volunteering in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for 4 months at Kiva field partner AMK. I recently had the opportunity to visit the Trapaing Chork Village in the Kampong Cham Province of Cambodia.

I sat down with Mrs. Then Saem to see how she is doing. Then reports that her family is in good health and her youngest child sat with her during our conversation. She used the loan to hire 4 laborers from her village to work on her 5 hector yam field. She provides the laborers a salary of 8,000 Riel a day, which is about $2 USD. She also provides the laborers and their families with 3 meals a day. Then's annual revenue from yam production is 7 to 8 million Riel, which is equivalent to about $1,750 to $2,000. I asked Then what other options she would have for getting a loan if it were not for AMK, and she said that AMK was her only option. This is Then's first loan through AMK.
