The village bank, consisting of thirteen members, is located in Smeth village in Kampong Chhnang province. The members plan to use the loans they have obtained for different purposes. Mrs. Sambin Chhim is the village bank president, selected by the members. She is a farmer who owns a piece of land on which she cultivates rice. She does not have enough money to buy rice seeds to grow, so she is requesting a loan to purchase rice seeds to cultivate on the field to earn her living. Mrs. Sambin Chhim is a 58-year-old widow with a child who works as a jeweler.


Six members in this group loans have end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. They are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because they are the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor.
