Sin Sang

Thank you for your loan. It has been disbursed to Sin Sang by CREDIT MFI -- World Relief in Cambodia. We are excited to watch this business grow. Over the next 18 - 18 months, CREDIT MFI -- World Relief will be collecting repayments from this entrepreneur and posting progress updates on the Kiva website.

Mr. Sin Sang was not home when we visited his home down a dirt road littered with broken bricks on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. His wife, 5 year-old son, and 3 month-old daughter greeted us with tea and chairs (pictured). Their older son, age 10, was still at elementary school. His wife is a tailor and earns about $0.50 per day, though her income is irregular. She explained that her husband used the loan to pay his two construction workers’ wages on a regular basis. He builds small projects including homes and businesses. Mr. Sin Sang is paid by a client at the end of a construction project, which could take months. Since the workers need to be paid daily, this Kiva loan has allowed him to continue to operate his business when his cash flow was low.

They have had experience with a money lender before, who charged a prohibitive interest rate of 7-10% per month. They are much better able to afford a CREDIT MFI loan at an interest rate of 2.5% per month. This Kiva-financed loan is their fifth loan through CREDIT MFI. They have had no problem repaying this loan on time and plan to borrow again in the future if Mr. Sin Sang needs funds in order to finish a project.
