Seema Sardar Masih Group

Seema baji, a 57-year-old citizen of Arifwala, Pakistan, married to Sardar Masih, an employee of a private company, is the mother of four sons. Her elder son has been a wood seller for the past four years, while the others are students at the local school. From a young age Seema prepared embroidered dresses, but now her eyesight has weakened to the point that she now spends most of her time doing household chores. Having repaid her two previous loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan), she is now applying for a new one to buy wood in order to help expand her son’s wood-selling business.

Seema is the group leader of four other women in her community:

Tasleem baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop;

Aneela baji is requesting a loan to purchase another music player for her sound systems sales business;

Donia baji wants a loan to buy vehicular spare parts to sell;

Parveen baji requests a loan to change the body of her auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

The funds for this group loan will be distributed among the members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members guarantee one another's loans, so if one does not repay, the others are responsible.







About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
