The following description was written by Moses Onyango, a volunteer with Village Enterprise Fund and partner representative for Kiva in Uganda:

Rose got a grant of 100 US dollars from VEF. She started straight away with her business of buying and selling produce.

She buys and sells the following items: millet, sorghum, rice, beans, dry cassava, peas, etc.

Most of the people in Uganda live by agriculture. So the only way for the community to raise money for supporting themselves is by selling off their food crops to the available market.

Uganda lies on equatorial region so this makes it to receive rain throughout the year. Thus people are able to plant and harvest their crops thrice a year. This gives Roseís business of produce to run all throughout the year.

She is able to raise some money out of her small capital to support her family.

Given the 500 US dollars, she will excel in her business very well.

She is capable of handling the loan and also to refund it back.

RE:June update.

Entrepreneur: Rose Athieno
Location: Tororo, Uganda

Right now produce is the best bussiness in Tororo since it is the season of harvest.

The market of produce has been over flooded with Millet,Maize,Sorghum,simsim.Beans,etc.

This gives a very high opportinity for this bussiness to buy as first as possible and then take the produce out to the middle man in the nearing country Kenya.

They are now able to buy up to 10,000 Kiligrams of produce.

This bussiness does'ent strain alot looking for the produce because now farmers have known them and they can bring the produce directly to them.

In the recent sells they have made a profit of $120.

They have now in stock produce worth 8,500 Kilograms. They are targeting 15,000 kilogram by the end of this week so that they can take them out for sales for better profits.

I will give you more update soon on how this bussiness is doing.

Thanks alot for your support.

This produce bussiness was wise enough to buy over 10,000 Kilograms of the following produce: 1. Maize 2. Millet 3. Sorgum 4. Rice 5.Peas. They bought Millet at 120 shillings per kilogram and now They are going to sell each kilogram @800 shillings. They bought Maize @100 shillings per kilogram and they are now selling it @700 shs per kilogram. They bought sorgum @ 100 shs. and they are selling at 600 shs Per kilogram. They bought Rice @400 shs. and selling @ 1,000 shs. They bought peas @200 and selling @ 900 shs. This time, they are going to register the best sells than ever before. This will make this bussiness to advance to higher hieghts of profit making. They have alersdy hired a truck that will be taking the produce to Busia town. The buyers came and they have already negotiated the prices. I will keep you posted on the bussiness achievement after the sells. God bless you mightly. yours Pastor Moses Onyango.
