The members of the group Lafia are married women who average 28 years of age and three children. They live in traditional conjugal families with brothers, sisters, children, and spouses in the village of Coni (Fana sub-prefecture, Dioïla prefecture) in the Koulikoro region of the Republic of Mali. Thanks to ties of marriage and community, they got to know one another. They all do commerce in soap called "gabacourouni" that is made in the traditional way.

Concerned about developing their commerce, they joined the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are on their fifth group loan. All the preceding loans have been correctly repaid. The women plan to buy 1,500 pieces of locally-made soap from wholesalers from Fana in order to resell them, cash or credit accepted, to customers composed of men and women in the village of Coni.

The group members each hope to obtain a profit of 35,000 francs CFA that will be used for educating the children.
