The women of the group Djekafo are all married and average 36 years of age and five children. They live in traditional extended conjugal families with sisters, brothers, children, spouses, and mothers-in-law in the village of Coni (Fana subprefecture) in the Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali. United by social and professional ties, they do work involving the buying and selling sacks of charcoal.

With the goal of developing their business, they have become members of the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are on their fifth group loan. All the preceding loans have been correctly repaid. The women plan to buy 700 sacks of charcoal (100 kg each) from rural producers authorized in and around the village of Coni. They make their sales general in cash, retail and wholesale, to wholesalers from Fana and other large cities. Their customers are composed of men as well as women.

They each intend to obtain a profit of 15,000 francs CFA at the end of the cycle. The profits will be used to care for the children.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK

Entrepreneur: Djekafo Group
Location: Fana Koulikoro, Mali
