Faapaia counts the land she lives on as a blessing. The soil is suitable for planting taro and bananas and raising cattle, and they own a lot of acres. Faapaia’s husband used to work for the Agriculture department but is now running his own business with the help they received from SBPD. Faapaia joined the program because she wants to extend water pipelines and fencing that separates the cattle from the plantation.
They weren’t qualified to apply for a loan at the local banks. The cows they raise are useful for faalavelaves (family events and obligations) and can also be sold when their money supply is short.
