Lucy Swanikier

Lucy Swanikier is thirty-seven years old. She is married with three children. Lucy is resourceful and enterprising. She has sent three children all the way through high school with her business earnings. She operates a local restaurant and sells local foods like “fufu” and “banku”. Fufu is prepared from pounded cassava and plantains, taken with soup. Banku is prepared from milled maize grains, and it is taken with hot pepper or soup.

Lucy says prices of raw materials have gone up significantly and she is no longer able to meet her production expenditure. She needs the loan to enable her to inject additional capital into the business to scale up production and maintain quality as well. She wants to use the loan to buy more raw materials like maize, cassava, plantains, meat, fish, vegetables, and firewood. Lucy is a member of a group called “Miracle” Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee and provide support to one another to repay the loan.
