Yaa Nyarko

Yaa Nyarko is 30 years old. She is married and has two children - a son and a daughter. The son is studying at an elementary school, while the daughter is yet to start. Yaa's family lives in a rented apartment in Koforidua, a suburb of the city of Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Koforidua is a farming as well as a commercial community, and the majority of its inhabitants are farmers or traders. Yaa works hard to help her husband financially support the family. Her husband is a mechanic who owns a workshop and earns money repairing damaged vehicles. Yaa buys tubers of yam from Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana and sometimes from the surrounding villages and then sells fresh yam in the local market square as well as distributes it to food vendors in her community. She has been in this business for about five years. Currently, Yaa needs a loan to buy tubers of yam in bulk in order to cut down on cost that she otherwise incurs as a result of the frequent trips to procure the yam tubers. She hopes to thereby increase her business profit margin and be able to better support her husband in paying for their children's education.
