Sililoa lives in a tiny seaside village on the island of Samoa. She is 45 years old and fishes with her husband. The income from their daily catch is the sole source of income for their family. Her husband does the bulk of the fishing in the early morning, and Sililoa’s responsibility is to haul their catch to the local market and negotiate good sale prices. She is confident that investing in their fishing business is the right thing for the whole family and is applying for a loan to help them buy some new nets and basic equipment to improve their fishing yield.

Journal for Sililoa Sautia

Entrepreneur: Sililoa Sautia

Sililoa and her husband are well known in the village for selling fish, and her husband is a very good fisherman. She was using her last loan to buy and re-new all the fishing gears her husband needed like the spear, snorkel, nets and a new canoe. She always sells her fish around the village during the week but for the weekends, she sells at the fish market in town because it’s a good selling place and time for her. The money she gets from her business is used to feed her extended family, fund her children’s education and satisfy her personal commitments. She is thankful for the financial support she received.
