Akosua Serwaa

Akosua Serwaa, 50, is married with four children -- two boys and two girls. Her children have finished the village elementary school, but have not attended any schooling after that, instead just roaming the village. Akosua is concerned that her husband is not taking enough responsibility in caring for their children. The family lives in her husband's family house in Abofour, a farming community in Offinso in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

Akosua is a dynamic innovator and self-starter when it comes to her work. She sells bush meat in her community. Her suppliers provide her with bush meats such as grass cutter, antelope, deer and more, all of which have a big market share in Ghana. People from the big cities place orders with Akosua, which they then come pick up when the order is ready.

Demand for her products has been high, so Akosua is applying for a loan to purchase more bush meats and increase her inventory. It is her dream to be able to provide enough support and financial assistance for her children to return to school.
