Charles is married to Florence, a very supportive wife, and they are blessed with two children. He lives in Kobenyang-Bome, a small rural town about an hour outside of Bamenda, Cameroon. He plans to invest this loan in the purchase of a motorbike. He will be driving the motorbike himself since this is his old line of business. He plans to contribute 280,000 CFA ($560 USD) from his personal savings and from the sale of an old motorbike he has towards this purchase.

This is Charles's second loan; he has been a GHAPE member since 29/03/2007. The motorbike will be used as a taxi in the area. Bikes are one of the most efficient forms of transport in and around Kobenyang. As many of the roads are in shambles, bikes are often able to move through these areas quicker and without suffering as much damage as cars.

With the profit from this loan, Charles plans to take care of his family, ensure that they eat well and buy their medications. He knows very well that he will be able to repay this loan because of the low interest rate and the lengthy repayment period. Moreover, last year Charles was able to make savings that tripled his loan of 40,000 FRS.

The Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE) is a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instils a sense of family and community within its clients and staff and has developed a strong bond of trust between the organization and its clients.
