The ten members of the group Kanbèkoulou average 39 years of age and are all married women living for the most part in monogamous families in Markala sub-prefecture (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women have five children on average and know one another through ties of friendship and community. They come out of the tradition association Layidou and essentially do commerce in condiments.

Concerned about adding to their business capital, they joined the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are on their third loan, which will be used to buy 6 sacks of cabbage, 4 baskets of fresh tomatoes, 1 basket of fresh chili peppers, 5 kg of black pepper and soumbala (a condiment of pounded and fermented seeds), 5 boxes of smoked fish, and 1 sack of peanuts. Supplies are gotten once a week in Markala and monthly in Dougabougou and Seribala. All these goods are sold locally in Diamarabougou Rail Ko, cash or credit accepted, to customers composed mostly of women.

The group members plan on realizing an average monthly profit of 26,000 francs CFA that will be used to pay the loan interest and to cover family expenses.
