Shamim baji is a 56-year-old married lady and has resided in a city called Borewala, Pakistan for the past 40 years. She couldn’t get an education because her parents couldn’t afford her education expenses. Her husband's name is Rahmat Masih and he is a wood seller by profession. He has been selling wood for the past 25 years.

Shamim baji also helps him in his wood-selling work. They divide the work hours between themselves. Shamim baji sells wood in the shop in the morning and her husband sells wood in the evening. Shamim baji is the mother of two sons. Her elder son runs a salon and the other has a mobile phone shop. Shamim baji successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a micro-finance institute in Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy more wood to expand her wood-selling business.

She is the group leader for some more women from her locality. Farzana baji and Shabana baji each want a loan to buy groceries for their grocery shop. Parveen baji wants a loan to buy wood to re-sell. Fozia baji wants a loan to buy seasonal fruit for her fruit-selling business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
