Suraiya baji is a 48-year-old married lady and has resided in a city named Borewala, Paksitan, for the past 13 years. She couldn’t get an education due to her parents' little financial resources. She is married to a man whose name is M. Latif and he is a gardener. She is a mother of five children: two sons and three daughters. Her elder son is a mason. Another reads in 2nd standard. Her first two daughters are involved in a carpet weaving business. Her youngest daughter reads in 3rd standard.

Suraiya baji handles a milk selling business independently. She does this work to fulfill the needs of her family, because it’s a difficult task for a single person to serve the family. She successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a loan to buy another buffalo to expand her milk selling business.

She is the group leader of some more women of her locality. Sakina baji wants a loan to buy thread to resell. Rafiqan naz baji wants a loan to buy fertilizer to resell. Mumtaz baji wants a loan to buy a donkey cart for loading. Khursheed baji wants a loan to buy wood to resell. Abida parveen baji wants a loan to buy iron to resell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
