Ama Gyaa

Ama Gyaa is sixty years old. She is widowed but has given birth to five children: four boys and a girl. Currently, Ama says two of her children have completed senior high school, while the rest are still in primary school. Ama says she also takes care of her late sister's five children. She lives with her family in a rented house in Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Offinso is both a farming and commercial community.

Ama, therefore, works very hard to take care of the family. She sells fresh yams in the local market square. She procures the tubers of yam from the farmers in the surrounding villages. Ama has been in business for five years. She also distributes the yam to some food vendors in her community. She wants a loan to buy tubers of yam on a large scale so that she can distribute to more customers and thus increase her profit margin. It is her dream to give all her children and late sister’s children formal education.
