"My name is Farzana and I’m 29 years old. I was born in a mid-size city called Arifwala, Pakistan. I am married to a man whose name is M. Ramzan, and he is a mason by trade. He knows that he can only get income from this business when someone calls him to help construct a building. So he does another job which is driving a rented auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle) to help his family survive. I am the mother of two girls who are not yet of school-going age. I prepare embroidered dresses on order and use the earnings to invest in a "committee". I’m planning to use the collective amount, when it is my turn to receive it, to pay all the education expenses of my daughters. I am applying for a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle) for my husband so that he will be able to earn more income and get the real reward of his struggle."

Farzana is the group leader for several more women from her locality. Nasreen baji wants a loan to buy biscuits and chips to re-sell. Ruqaiya baji wants a loan to buy wood for her furniture-making business. Kosar baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
